Elon Musk says he would lift Twitter ban on Donald Trump

Elon Musk stated shortly after laying down his plans for Twitter following a multibillion-dollar buyout that he would be happy to reactivate Donald Trump’s account.

Musk was asked if he planned to let Donald Trump back on Twitter in an interview with the Financial Times at their Future of the Car conference (Timestamp: 25:26). Due to remarks that incited the assault of the US Capitol building, Trump was initially banned from Twitter in January 2021.

Musk responded by criticizing the usage of permanent bans, noting that he and Jack Dorsey, the founder and former CEO of Twitter, were of the same mind. They should be “very rare,” Musk said, and designated for “bots or spam scam accounts.”

He stated that banning Trump on Twitter was incorrect and a mistake since it alienated a portion of the country that had previously supported him. Musk stated emphatically that the decision to prohibit Trump was a “morally awful choice,” “very unwise,” and “flat out idiotic.”

Musk then clarified that he does not currently own Twitter and that it is unlikely that he will do so. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that Trump would return to Twitter if his account was reinstated, and might instead stick to his Truth Social app.

Musk has been outspoken about what he considers to be true freedom of speech and his use of Twitter to promote his cause. It was subsequently explained that this does not mean that everyone can say whatever they want on Twitter, as individuals who post anything inappropriate or harmful would have their tweets erased or hidden, and their account suspended, but not permanently banned.
