DITO Telecommunity plans to introduce SIM card registration for its users within three months.

“We can implement the SIM registration ahead of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) at no cost to subscribers,” said DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano at a launch of their flagship store at SM Megamall on October 15.
According to the Manila Bulletin, the third telecom provider has 13 million users and plans to have 15 million by the end of 2022.
Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago, Chief Technology Officer, indicated that a registration structure has been integrated in DITO’s system since the SIM Registration law’s establishment. “As part of subscriber onboarding using the multi-purpose DITO app, with subscriber data safeguarded by rigorous privacy requirements.”
This system is comparable to Smart’s GigaLife and Globe’s GlobeOne applications in that users may register their personal information such as complete name, email, and birthday.
The primary problem that carriers may face, according to Santiago, is identity authentication. Santiago says that the national ID and passport system will be beneficial for subscribers’ identification certification.
“Doing so will unburden the telcos of the need to establish another data base to store biometrics data, which would be time consuming and resource heavy,” he asserted.
He said that the government assumes the storage of biometrics data in the operation of its SIM registration for security, data privacy, and resource efficiency.
