Microsoft officially terminates the free upgrade path to Windows 10/11 from Windows 7/8

Microsoft has stopped offering the free upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

In a document released on September 20, 2023, it was stated that the way to get the free upgrade for Windows 7/8 has been taken away. This is the end of a time for people who wanted to upgrade without spending money.

In 2015, Microsoft released Windows 10 and gave free upgrades to people using Windows 7 or Windows 8 until July 29, 2016.

Even though the deadline was over, users found out they could still upgrade for free.

Users were able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free from Windows 10 when it was released in 2021.

Anyone with the right equipment could still upgrade.

According to DeskModder’s report, you can still use a Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 11 version 22H2.

But this method doesn’t work in the newest version of Insider build in the Canary channel.

It’s not clear when this upgrade option will be removed from the stable versions of the operating system.

Just so you know, users can still get Windows 11 for free if they already have Windows 10.
