Microsoft is revamping Windows 11's Photos app once again

Microsoft previously revamped Windows 11’s Photos app last year to match the appearance and feel of the operating system, but the company isn’t done upgrading it.

The new Photos app upgrade will be available to Windows Insiders via the Dev Channel. This implies that not all insiders will receive the update, but Microsoft intends to gradually extend the deployment as they hear feedback. This new update introduces a new ‘photos-management experience.’

The update adds a gallery, which simplifies browsing, locating, maintaining, and consuming your photo collection. It also provides a “Memories” experience, good experiences on Windows devices, and easy photo backup with OneDrive.

Based on a post on the Windows Insider Blog, here are some things for Insiders to try with this Photos app update:

  • Organize your photos with a productive and beautifully redesigned purpose-built experience.
  • Easily backup your Photos to OneDrive and keep your memories safe.
  • Celebrate a life well-lived with improved “Memories” experiences.
  • Be productive with multi-window and multi-screen.
  • Easily view your OneDrive storage quota usage and add more storage.
  • Import and manage your photos from external sources such as your phone and camera.

This upgrade will replace the Photos app experience (available for versions 2022.31090.16004.0 and higher). Microsoft released Clipchamp this year, a new video editor aimed to make producing films on Windows easier. The conventional Video Editor is no longer included in the new Photos app experience because Clipchamp is equipped with all the basic tools you’d expect, such as editing and splitting, as well as more professional-style capabilities, such as transitions and animated text. If you like, you can still use the old Photos app from the Microsoft Store.
