Meta has confirmed that Instagram’s ‘nudity protection’ feature, which removes uninvited nude photographs from users’ direct messages (DMs), is in the early phases of development.
Optional, similar to the ‘Hidden Words’ function, allows users to filter away direct message requests containing potentially objectionable language automatically.
The software firm claims that the ‘nudity protection’ mechanism does not allow Meta access to actual messages or third-party interference. Liz Fernandez, a spokesman for Meta, told The Verge, “We are working closely with experts to guarantee that these new features protect users’ privacy while giving them control over the messages they receive.”
Alessandro Paluzzi, an app researcher, published a snapshot of the program, which claims, “Your device’s technology covers photographs that may include nudity in chats. Instagram is unable to view the images.”
