Sony and Microsoft plan to include advertisements in PlayStation and Xbox games

Following Microsoft’s announcement last week that it plans to do the same with Xbox, it appears that Sony is considering doing the same with PlayStation titles.

According to the article, Sony intends to encourage game developers to create free-to-play games with adverts as a means of generating revenue in addition to the standard microtransactions and battle passes.

However, unlike ads on Facebook and YouTube videos, it appears that the idea is to smoothly integrate adverts into the game, such as placing them on virtual billboards or sports stadiums.

Sony aims to incorporate compensation-based adverts, similar to those found in several mobile games, in which players who watch commercials and other promos can earn skins and other in-game stuff.

Microsoft is reportedly not going to take a portion of the Xbox game ad revenue, while Sony has yet to make a decision.

According to a source, Sony will be very picky when it comes to ad partners, and would immediately eliminate companies who collect personal data.

The PlayStation ad program could debut before the end of the year, while the Xbox ad program could debut in the third quarter.
