PLDT Inc. and Microsoft have announced a collaboration to bolster the Philippines’ digital borders and infrastructure protection against cybercrime through Microsoft’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Program (CTIP).

Most Filipinos have entered the digital domain as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, and this increased online use and behavior has created a larger area of opportunity for cyber attacks to arise. Microsoft’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Program, which is led by its Digital Crimes Unit (DCU), which has technical, legal, and business skills, was established in 2008 to combat cybercrime around the world. PLDT will have access to Microsoft DCU’s Azure-based cyber threat intelligence, which will provide information on the impact of malware families that DCU has previously destroyed. PLDT uses its network domain knowledge to connect information sharing in order to identify compromised infrastructure and alert people in the country to potential cybercrime risks.
“We look forward to seeing how the Microsoft CTIP intelligence helps PLDT secure the inhabitants of the Philippines,” Mary Jo Schrade, Assistant General Counsel and Regional Lead, Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit Asia, said.
“One of the major and most solid cornerstones of the PLDT group’s cybersecurity framework is our mature and sophisticated threat intelligence activities.” According to Angel T. Redoble, FVP, Chief Information Security Officer and head of PLDT and Smart’s Cyber Security Operations Group, “We are pleased to partner with Microsoft to help us strengthen our strong cyber threat intelligence operations and to help us better protect our customers in particular, and the country’s cyber defenses in general.”
