According to a report from Manila Bulletin, the Department of Education (DepEd) is now validating the allegation on the alleged hacking of some bank accounts of public school instructors (MB).
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) had received reports from its members “who lost varied sums of money” since last week, prompting this action. TDC claims that the cash were transferred from its Landbank payroll accounts to other banks/e-wallets.
Individual teachers have had amounts taken ranging from PHP 26,000 to PHP 121,000. TDC Chair Benjo Basas stated that they had first notified several DepEd officials in order to seek assistance.
In a Viber message to the Manila Bulletin, DepEd Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla said, “We are currently validating it now with our field offices.”
In the meantime, the TDC chair stated that Landbank should be held liable for the occurrence. The group is also looking to the Department of Education for assistance in getting the money returned to its members.
Furthermore, the TDC requests that private-sector teachers report any such incidents to the authorities.
