Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has announced that they will be imposing a time limit on Chinese users under the age of 14.
According to ByteDance’s blog post, real-name authenticated users under the age of 14 will be limited to 40 minutes per day and unable to use the app from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. the following day.
Furthermore, Douyin has recently implemented its ‘youth mode,’ which includes educational content such as science experiments, museum exhibitions, historical video explainers, etc. This was done in the hopes of piqueing the children’s interest in the subjects covered in the videos.
Douyin also encourages parents to assist their children with real-name authentication and to have their children enter youth mode, or at the very least to turn on youth mode when its window pops up actively.
