DITO Telecommunity Corporation (DITO) recently announced that Nokia had been chosen to provide 5G services on the Philippine island of Mindanao. DITO’s ambitious vision of creating a high-quality 5G network across the country, formally commenced in May 2021, will be completed with the deployment.

Nokia assists DITO in delivering 5G services to its clients with improved speeds, capacity, and lower latencies while decreasing complexity and lowering costs through better energy savings. Nokia provides equipment from its massive MIMO, multi-band, Single RAN AirScale portfolio to develop the Radio Access Network (RAN) for the 5G infrastructure across Mindanao, the Philippines’ second largest island to achieve the needed network performance.
DITO also used Nokia’s NetAct network management and daily network operations solution, including configuration management, monitoring, and software management. Nokia provided digital design and deployment and optimization and technical support services to help the company market faster.
Since 2020, Nokia has been a partner in the 4G LTE radio space. DITO, a joint venture between Udenna Group and China Telecom, is the Philippines’ newest telecommunications carrier, with plans to build a new network.
“We are happy to continue our cooperation with DITO into the 5G age and help execute its ambitious goals for 5G connectivity,” said Tommi Uitto, Nokia’s President of Mobile Networks. We’re also ecstatic that DITO has chosen our industry-leading 5G RAN technologies to power its new network, which will provide excellent connectivity for businesses and individuals.”
