Senator Risa Hontiveros is pleading with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to push DITO Telecommunity to improve its services, citing a growing number of complaints about the telecom’s supposedly bad performance.

The senator has chastised DITO for saying that its presence as the third telco will increase competition. She also wondered what happened to their advertised Internet speed of near-Singapore levels.
For Hontiveros, it appears that DITO has just added to the Filipino public’s burden. She mentioned online concerns about signal reception, SIM card troubles, and sluggish Internet speeds, particularly those accumulating on DITO’s social media profiles.
Hontiveros also stated that if DITO does not keep its half of the contract, the DICT should forfeit the performance bond worth Php25.7 billion. By July, DITO plans to achieve a minimum average Internet speed of 27Mbps, with a goal of 55Mbps in five years.
