From January to March of this year, Globe completed 34 site upgrades in Leyte and four more in Southern Leyte, for 38.
This includes 12 site upgrades in the Abuyog municipality, which now has improved call, SMS, and data browsing services.
“Dati mahirap kasi, naghahanap pa kami ng signal para lang magkaroon ng internet. Sumasakay pa kami, namamasahe para makakuha signal at at makasagot kami sa mga module. Pero ngayon magaan na, hindi na kami gumagastos sa pamasahe. Para sa amin, hulog ng langit ang cell site,” said Arabella Grace Padrique, a student from barangay Cagbolo, Abuyog.
The modernization has benefited not only students in the two provinces but also those who work from home and rely on the internet.
“Kung meron po kami ng mga forms kami na iddownload madali na lang po. Hindi gaya ng dati na wala pong cell site,” added Jay Soniedo, a teacher in one of the schools of the municipality.
Last month, Globe also built one new tower in Tacloban City and one in Baybay City.
“We are looking to install more cell towers and complete more site upgrades in Eastern Visayas as internet connectivity plays a major role in helping communities survive the effects of the pandemic. By making our presence stronger in the region, it is going to be a win-win situation for more customers and households in the region,” added Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.
Globe’s aggressive network construction and network modernization to 4G LTE and 5G have resulted in better services for its customers across the country. According to Ookla® data from Q1 20211, the telco’s nationwide consistency score is now greater than 70%. Metro Manila had the highest Globe score of more than 76 percent, with impressive percentages recorded in Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Cebu City, and Davao City.
Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 9, which emphasizes the importance of infrastructure and innovation as drivers of economic growth and development.
