Nikon, Sony and Canon join forces to combat AI-generated images

It’s getting more difficult to tell if a photo is real or fake because there are a lot of fake images or AI-generated images out there.

Right now, when you take a photo with a camera or smartphone, it comes with some extra information called EXIF metadata. This includes details about the camera settings, when and where the photo was taken, information about the image, and copyright information. But, you can easily change this metadata directly from the camera settings or by manipulating the output file.

Camera companies like Nikon, Sony Group, and Canon are working on a new technology to add digital signatures to their images. This special signature will have important information like the photographer’s name, date, place, and other qualifications.

A tool called Verify, which is accessed through the internet, was created with the help of camera makers, tech companies, and global news organizations. It shows the information that is hidden within photos to confirm if they are genuine or not.
