Globe reported that it was able to stop a record-breaking 2.72 billion scam and spam messages in 2022, which is more than double the number of messages blocked in 2021.

Globe states that this accomplishment is a result of their increased efforts to combat malicious SMS.
The network service provider also disclosed that it has banned 83.4 million bank-related spam messages in 2014, collaborating with the country’s largest commercial banks and online retailers to ensure a more effective response to spam and fraudulent SMS.
Globe asserts that preventing spam and phishing messages is a vital component of its cybersecurity strategy, noting that it was able to shield users from harmful SMS before the SIM Registration Act went into effect.
“Our consumers are our main concern, thus we do all possible to safeguard them against con artists and fraudsters. As we participate in the complete implementation of the SIM Registration Act, we will continue to invest in cybersecurity technologies and work hard to give our customers with a safe and enjoyable online experience, said Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer.
Globe has invested over $20 million to improve its SMS spam identification and blocking technology. Its Security Operations Center screens out undesirable messages, including app-to-person and person-to-person SMS from international and domestic sources, around the clock.
The government passed the SIM (subscriber identity module) Registration Act (Republic Act No. 11934) last year in response to the rise in SMS-related crimes.
