Philippines' fixed broadband internet is the 5th fastest in SEA, according to Ookla

Ookla’s September Speedtest Global Index report indicates that the Philippines has the 5th fastest fixed broadband internet in Southeast Asia.

According to Ookla’s research, the Philippines came in fifth position with a median download speed of 78.69 Mbps and a median upload speed of 74.91 Mbps. Singapore, with 215, is the leading country. Thailand came in second with 195.22 Mbps, followed by Malaysia with 89.09 Mbps and Vietnam with 79.95 Mbps.

According to Sylwia Kechiche, Ookla’s chief analyst, the Philippines have been progressively climbing in the Speedtest GlobalIndex rankings. This is due to the expenditures made by Philippine operators to modernize and enhance their copper infrastructure, the active migration of customers to fiber, and the connection of a large number of first-time users.

The Philippines has a median mobile download speed of 22.54 Mbps and a median mobile upload speed of 5.65 Mbps.

“The Philippines’ steady growth in the Speedtest Global Index is due to the long-term investments and hard work of the country’s telecommunications companies. Jeremiah de la Cruz, PLDT’s Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business – Home, stated, “At PLDT, we reaffirm our commitment to provide the finest customer experience and power homes with innovations that are future-ready.”
