Only two weeks after implementing the strategy to combat SMS-based fraud, telco giant Globe Telecom has already blocked more than 32.2 million text messages with clickable links.

A first drastic step taken to combat the rise of fraudulent mobile messages Globe’s chief information security officer, Anton Bonifacio, called the group’s action “warranted” in light of the enormous number of malicious text messages that were stopped between September 28 and October 13.
“The amount of text messages with clickable links we blocked within just about two weeks shows the staggering number of spam and scam SMS that disrupt and threaten customers every day,” he said.
“We reiterate our call on our customers to remain vigilant as fraudsters will continue to find ways to circumvent measures that aim to thwart them. Do not engage with SMS from anonymous sources making enticing offers,” Bonifacio added.
Until the SIM Registration Act is put into effect, the Ayala-led telco stated the precaution would be in place.
In comparison to 2021’s 1.15 billion spam and scam mails, Globe have banned 1.3 billion between January and September.
With expenditures totaling 1.1 billion, Globe claimed to have stepped up its campaign against these cybercriminals.
