GCash, the mobile e-wallet giant, said this month that it will no longer send text messages for each transaction on the platform. The move will lower the mobile wallet’s running costs.

Text messages, according to the corporation, continue to incur telecommunication charges. Users can utilize text texts to confirm that they have successfully sent and received money.
“To help improve security & provide easier access to your transaction history, we’ll begin moving confirmation messages from your text message inbox to your App Inbox,” a text advisory from Gcash read.
The Pay bills transaction reports will no longer be given through text from September 13, while notifications on sending money will be sent in-app by September 28 under the “Activity” page. Other transaction receipts and alerts can be accessed in GCash’s inbox, they added.
GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon said in August that the e-wallet has 66 million registered users as of the second quarter of the year.
In a statement issued last week, the company indicated that it supports proposed legislation that would penalize the loan and sale of mobile wallet accounts in order to strengthen its security measures and avoid scams and frauds.
One of the most recent advancements and additions to the program was the addition of a crypto icon or crypto tab. The project is part of Gcash’s plans to incorporate cryptocurrency within the company.
