Netflix to introduce the "add a home" feature for users who wish to share accounts

In order to allow users to share their accounts with other families for a price, Netflix has revealed that it will soon introduce a new option called “add a home.”

In a blog post, Netflix’s Chengyi Long said that the widespread account sharing that is now occurring among households hinders the company’s capacity to make long-term improvements and investments in its service.

“We value our members and are aware of the variety of entertainment options available to them. In order to be as considerate as we can when charging for use across several homes, we’re working hard to produce excellent TV shows and movies, Long added.

More than 100 million households are utilizing accounts that have been paid for by other people, according to Netflix, according to Bloomberg.

In Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, the “add a home” functionality will go live. It functions as follows:

• One home per account: Each Netflix account – whatever your plan – will include one home where you can enjoy Netflix on any of your devices.

• Buy additional homes: To use your Netflix account in additional homes, we will ask you to pay an extra [219 Pesos per month per home in Argentina / USD 2.99 per month per home in the Dominican Republic / USD 2.99 per month per home in Honduras / USD 2.99 per month per home in El Salvador / USD 2.99 per month per home in Guatemala]. Members on the Basic plan can add one extra home, Standard up to two extra, and Premium up to three extra.

• Travel included: You can watch while outside the home on your tablet, laptop or mobile.

• New manage homes feature: You will soon be able to control where your account is being used – and remove homes at any time – from your account settings page.

Once the function is available, Netflix said it will notify subscribers in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala by email and on Netflix.
