At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the WiFi 7 capable FastConnect 7800 chip on February 28. Qualcomm’s latest chip, which is regarded as the world’s first with such connection innovation, aids in the delivery of the world’s fastest WiFi, with peak rates of 5.8 Gbps. That’s a 60 percent increase over previous generations. “Multiple and simultaneous 5GHz and/or 6GHz connections” are also possible.

Snapdragon Sound, specifically its S3 and S5 sound platforms, and Bluetooth LE Audio are also supported by the chip.
“Qualcomm Technologies reasserts its leadership by defining the future of wireless communication with the FastConnect 7800. “Introducing the industry’s first WiFi 7 solution may be enough for some, but with the introduction of HBS Multi-Link, we take performance to a new level, shattering expectations for speed and latency,” said Dino Bekis, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technologies’ Mobile Compute and Connectivity division. “The FastConnect 7800 is clearly the greatest client connectivity option in the business, with up to 50% lower power consumption and Intelligent Dual Bluetooth with superior Snapdragon Sound features.”
Commercial availability is envisaged in the second half of 2022.
In technical terms, WiFi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be, intends to make better use of the wireless spectrum and reduce latency. 320 MHz bandwidth, 4K QAM, and multi-link operations are among the intended enhancements. By 2024, the modifications are expected to be finished.
