AMD extends EPYC processor-based offerings

AMD has announced the availability of new Amazon EC2 Hpc6a instances, purpose-built for high-performance computing (HPC) workloads in the clouds, to complement its EPYC processor-based products.

Compared to comparable Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon EC2 Hpc6a instances provide up to 65 percent greater performance. As a result, Hpc6a will assist clients in running the most compute-intensive HPC applications such as genomics, computational fluid dynamics, weather forecasting, financial risk modeling, and so on.

“Amazon EC2 Hpc6a instances, powered by 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors, give organizations the flexibility to run HPC workloads that require a lot of compute power, fast memory and storage, and a lot of inter-instance communication without the upfront cost of building and maintaining HPC infrastructure on-premises,” said David Brown, vice president of Amazon EC2. “We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with AMD and provide another critical AMD EPYC instance to the Amazon EC2 portfolio.”

The instances powered by 3rd Generation, AMD EPYC processors, are now available in the United States, with other areas to follow soon.
