According to the latest report by Ookla, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) remains the country’s fastest 5G network in the last quarter, with a median download speed that is “nearly twice as fast” as its competitor.
Smart had a median 5G download speed of 217.03 Mbps, which was faster than Globe’s 114.12 Mbps, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index Market and Analyses for Q3 2021.
The mobile operators with the fastest 5G download speeds in selected markets were also identified by Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index, including T-Mobile in the United States with 135.17 Mbps, China Mobile in Hong Kong with 191.95 Mbps, Telekom in Germany with 161.14 Mbps, and Bell in Canada with 183.39 Mbps.
Singapore’s Singtel had 248.45 Mbps median 5G download speeds, Finland’s Telia had 283.34 Mbps, China’s China Telecom had 304.03 Mbps, Spain’s Vodafone had 323.14 Mbps, New Zealand’s Vodafone had 326.44 Mbps, Qatar’s Ooredoo had 373.98 Mbps, and Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom had 440.93 Mbps.

“This motivates us to keep pushing forward with our network expansion and enhancement initiatives, as well as to stay ahead of our customers’ expectations by providing innovative goods and services,” she added.
Smart now has about 800,000 5G customers on its network, which is a 200 percent increase from Smart’s December 2020 5G user count.
Smart has also launched over 4,400 5G stations in over 4,000 places, giving the Philippines the broadest 5G coverage in the world.
Aside from excelling in 5G performance, Smart also maintained its position as the Philippines’ fastest mobile provider, with a Speed ScoreTM of 59.71, well ahead of Globe’s 28.38 and DITO’s 25.34. To rank network performance, Speed Score comprises a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed.
Smart also had the lowest median latency, indicating that it had the most responsive connection, which is important for activities like streaming and gaming. Smart had a 20-millisecond (ms) median latency, which was faster than DITO’s 24 ms and Globe’s 25 ms.
