Twitter has announced that its tipping feature, now known as Tips, is expanding to include more payment options, including cryptocurrency.
Users can add links to third-party payment services to their Twitter profiles using the Tips feature. In addition, as part of its effort to help users make money from the service, the platform will allow users to send and receive tips using Bitcoin.
Furthermore, this tipping feature allows users to send tips to their favorite accounts, support an emerging creator’s tweets, assist a small business owner, and so on.

– Users will notice the tipping icon (money icon) next to the Follow button on their profile page if their account has been enabled for Tips.
– Users can see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled by tapping the icon. The following are the services that are currently available:
• Bandcamp
• Cash App
• Chipper
• Patreon
• Razorpay
• Wealthsimple Cash
• Venmo
• GoFundMe
• PicPay
– When users tap the service they want to use, they will be taken away from Twitter and directed to the app they chose to send money. According to Twitter, they do not take a percentage of the tip.
People can also tip with Bitcoin using Strike, a payments app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows people to send and receive Bitcoin, in addition to the services currently available through Tips.
“We want everyone on Twitter to be able to get paid in some way. “Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and enable people to send money across borders with as little friction as possible – these are helping us get there,” said Esther Crawford, Twitter’s Staff Product Manager.
Users can now add their Bitcoin address to their profile when they enable Tips. People can directly send a payment by copying their address and pasting it into their preferred Bitcoin wallet.
To request, receive, or send tips via Tips or anywhere on our platform, users must be at least 18 years old.
Twitter Tips will be available to iOS users first, followed by Android users in the coming weeks.
