Smart reaffirms its position as the Philippines' Most Reliable 5G Mobile Operator

In the latest report by Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, leading mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc (Smart) continues to lead the 5G revolution in the Philippines, claiming the title of “Most Reliable 5G Mobile Operator.”

Smart received the highest scores in 5G Consistency and 5G Availability in Q2 2021, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data.

According to Ookla, 5G Consistency is determined by the percentage of a provider’s users who meet minimum download and upload speeds, whereas 5G Availability determines which network’s users spend the most time on 5G.

Smart came out on top in 5G Consistency, scoring 89.78 percent to Globe’s 78.15 percent. Smart also took first place in 5G Availability, with 14.67 percent versus 11.86 percent for Globe.

In a statement, Ookla CEO Doug Suttles said, “This claim recognizes Smart’s commitment to delivering best reliability to their customers across the Philippines.”

“Citations like this only serve to demonstrate the superior customer experience we provide as the Philippines’ 5G pioneer. These also motivate us to improve and innovate so that our customers can live the Giga Life and pursue their passions in our increasingly digitized world,” said Jane J. Basas, Smart’s SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business.

Smart was previously named the Philippines’ Fastest 5G Mobile Network in Q1-Q2 2021 by Ookla, with median download and upload speeds twice as fast as its closest competitor.

Smart had the fastest download speeds (220.66 Mbps vs. 103.22 Mbps for Globe). Smart also outperformed the competition in upload speeds, with 20.61 Mbps versus 8.07 Mbps for Globe.

Smart has also reasserted its dominance as the Philippines’ fastest mobile network for the fourth year in a row.

Since launching the Philippines’ first commercial 5G service last year, Smart has installed over 4,000 5G sites in over 3,000 locations, making Smart the country’s first, fastest, and widest 5G network.

Smart’s 5G network is backed by PLDT’s fiber network, the country’s largest, with more than 524,000 kilometers as of June 30.
