Android app compatibility, which was first promised during the Windows 11 event in June, is one of the most anticipated aspects of Windows 11. Unfortunately, those interested in this feature will have to wait, as Microsoft revealed today that Android app support would not be included in Windows 11 this autumn, which will begin rolling out on October 5.
Users will search, install, and run Android apps through the Microsoft Store on Windows 11. A new Windows Subsystem powers android apps for Windows 11 for Android, which Microsoft says will preview with Insiders in the coming months in collaboration with the Amazon AppStore.
This means that Android app support will not be available until at least 2022. We don’t know if Microsoft intends to include this feature in an update to Windows 11 version 21H2 or if it will wait until the next major Windows 11 feature update, version 22H2, which is set to be released in fall 2022.
Microsoft has collaborated with Amazon and Intel to bring Android app support to Windows 11. Amazon’s App Store will host and download Android apps, while Intel is developing a bridge technology that will allow ARM-compiled Android apps to operate on x86 machines.
