YouTube introduces the Premium Lite subscription plan

Google is introducing a new subscription option dubbed Premium Lite, which provides ad-free streaming at a lower cost.

A user on ResetEra discovered the Premium Lite plan. Premium Lite costs EUR 6.99 per month, as opposed to the standard EUR 11.99 monthly Premium subscription. According to The Verge, YouTube acknowledged the new idea and stated that it is presently being tested in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

“In the Nordics and Benelux (save for Iceland), we’re testing a new service to give customers even more options: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and includes ad-free YouTube videos,” a YouTube spokesman told The Verge.

According to The Verge, Premium Lite includes ad-free viewing via the YouTube app on the web, Android, iOS, and smart TVs, as well as the YouTube Kids app, but excludes additional features such as YouTube Music, background plays, and offline downloads.

According to YouTube, Premium Lite is presently in an experimental phase, but the company is considering rolling out other options based on customer feedback.
