Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed that a new feature called Call Links will begin to be rolled out on WhatsApp this week.
Call Links is a new, basic, but extremely important tool that allows individuals to join calls more quickly. A person only needs to establish a link to call and then email it to anyone who wants to join the call. The individual who received the link could simply click or tap on it.
What’s nice about this new feature is that even if the individual is not on a person’s contact list, they can still join the call; just make sure the link is delivered to a familiar person. The sole need for this feature is that the WhatsApp application be installed. The link will not work if a person receives it but does not have WhatsApp installed.
This type of functionality is not new because it has already been utilized on other applications, but given WhatsApp’s user base, despite its simplicity, it will be incredibly valuable to its users.
Aside from Mark Zuckerberg’s statement about Call Links, WhatsApp’s team is now testing safe encrypted video calling for up to 32 individuals, which will be released soon.
