At MWC 2022, TECNO Mobile revealed that its next CAMON 19 series will feature Samsung’s RGBW color filter sensor technology.
The new sensor technology was developed in collaboration with Samsung and involves adding a white sub-pixel to existing universal RGB phone configurations. It is sold as part of the ISOCELL RGBW color filter sensor solutions.
RGBW (red, green, blue, and white) technology is the next big update to existing mobile camera frameworks, allowing the new generation of phones to better match up to professional cameras, especially in high-light and low-light situations.
The RGBW light capture sensor adopts a new pixel arrangement and introduces (W) white pixels that are more sensitive to light on the basis of not damaging the original three primary colors, with 1.7x better sensitivity than the green color filter, which can not only ensure that the color is not distorted but also improve the brightness of the camera, in comparison to the traditional RGGB sensor.
According to TECNO, the new RGBW sensor will be coupled to a 64MP camera to boost the CMOS sensor’s light input, effectively enhancing picture quality and providing ultra-clear details without compromising contrast in dark and illuminated backdrops. By combining it with TECNO’s Glass + Plastic (G+P) technology, light intake may be increased by another 30%, effectively increasing the overall picture quality for users.
“This technical innovation was created based on customer input and an endeavor to offer brighter and clearer visuals, especially in the low light and super night mode,” said Pan Xuebao, VP and Head of R&D at Samsung Electronics. Its debut on TECNO’s CAMON series brings us one step closer to realizing our aim of bringing DSLR-quality photography into the hands of everyday people all across the world.”
“The TECNO CAMON series has always been geared on providing our users with an exceptional camera experience. “The usage of RGBW on the TECNO CAMON 19 series will boost camera capabilities and flexibility to respond to consumer expectations, to highlight natural human traits and colors to display aesthetics and variety across diverse markets,” said Leo Lee, TECNO’s Senior Product Manager.
