Smart offers 5G roaming in Germany, Qatar, Ireland, and the United Kingdom with Vodafone

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), a PLDT cellular unit, has teamed up with Vodafone, a global communications technology firm, to provide 5G roaming services in Germany, Qatar, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. This follows their successful activation in March in Australia.

Vodafone, Europe’s most extensive fixed and mobile network operator, also boasts the continent’s most significant and fastest-growing 5G network. Vodafone also has fixed networks in 21 countries and has mobile partners in another 48.

Smart continues to roll out 5G roaming services with 38 telecom operators in 27 major markets, including Luxembourg with Proximus, Oman with OmanTel, and Italy with TIM, to serve more clients.

This comes after successful launches in Canada (Telus), the United States (AT&T), Thailand (TrueMove and AIS), Switzerland (Sunrise), Denmark (TDC), Ireland (Meteor), Austria (Magenta Austria), Hong Kong (SmarTone and HKT), Israel (Pelephone), Turkey (Turkcell), Kuwait (Zain, Ooredoo, STC), Singapore (StarHub), Japan (NTT Docomo), Bahrain (Zain (KT Corp).

Smart prepaid and postpaid roaming customers in Germany, Qatar, and the United Kingdom can use their Smart 5G SIM and 5G-capable device to experience worry-free 5G roaming speeds for as low as P999 with Smart’s special GigaRoam plans. Customers outside of the Philippines can go to roam.smart.com.ph or download the GigaLife App to learn about and subscribe to roaming plans in these countries.

“Smart’s mission to be world-class in digital innovation and customer service is supported by our vast rollout of Smart 5G roaming. As soon as overseas travel resumes, these advancements are incorporated into carefully developed roaming data plans to complement our customers’ passions. The Smart brand promise is to make things simple through technology,” stated Mary Alice R. Ramos, Vice President and Head of International Roaming at Smart.

Smart’s 5G network, the Philippines’ first, fastest, and most widespread, currently has over 4,000 locations globally, thanks to PLDT’s most extensive fiber infrastructure, which spans more than 511,000 kilometers. Smart’s LTE network, which now reaches 96 percent of the population from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi, is also supported by this fiber infrastructure.

Ookla, a third-party analytics firm, has rated Smart as the country’s fastest mobile data network for the second half of 2020. Independent analytics firm Opensignal has awarded Smart a rare sweep in the April 2021 Philippines Mobile Network Experience Awards. The international internet testing organization umlaut, the global benchmarking business formerly known as P3, also awarded the mobile services provider the ‘Best in Test’ title.
