Playstation 5 is the fastest-selling PlayStation with 10 million units sold

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has just announced that the Playstation 5 has sold over 10 million units worldwide. Since its initial release on November 12, 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been the fastest-selling console in its history, continuing to outsell its predecessor, the PlayStation 4.

SIE also achieved additional milestones across its PlayStation Studio game portfolio, including:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games has sold more than 6.5 million copies since releasing on November 12, 2020
  • MLB The Show 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history, with more than 2 million copies sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021
  • Returnal from Housemarque, a new IP that launched to critical acclaim, has sold more than 560,000 copies since release on April 30, 2021
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Insomniac Games has sold more than 1.1 million copies* since releasing on June 11, 2021

SIE’s PS5 fiscal year forecast remains unchanged. PlayStation Studios will release a slew of exclusive games, including a new God of War, Gran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West. Along with highly anticipated titles such as Battlefield 2042, DEATH LOOP, Far Cry 6, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

“While PS5 has reached more homes faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as PS5 demand continues to outstrip supply. “I want gamers to know that, while we continue to face unique challenges around the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE,” said Jim Ryan, President, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The PlayStation 5 reached the 10-million-milestone 249 days after its release, whereas the Playstation 4 reached the same milestone 271 days after its release. Both the PS2 and PS3 passed the same milestone more than a year after their respective systems were released.
