According to Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and research, the leading mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has clinched a three-peat as the Philippines’ fastest mobile network.
Based on millions of consumer-initiated tests conducted on Speedtest on LTE-capable devices in the Philippines, Smart has exceeded Globe in terms of Speed Score and average upload and download speeds for three years in a row since 2018.
Smart was named the Philippines’ Speedtest Awards Winner for mobile network speed for the first time in 2018, with a Speed Score of 15.06 compared to Globe’s Speed Score of 9.9.
Smart also reached average download speeds of 17.24 Mbps (versus Globe’s 11.10 Mbps) and upload speeds of 8.11 Mbps (versus Globe’s 5.01 Mbps) in the same year.
Smart won the Speedtest Awards for mobile network speed in the Philippines in 2019 with a Speed Score of 17.4 against Globe’s 10.65.
Smart also achieved average download speeds of 19.62 Mbps (compared to Globe’s 12.04 Mbps) and upload speeds of 9.45 Mbps (compared to Globe’s 4.92 Mbps).
Smart was named the Speedtest Awards Winner in both the first and second halves of 2020 by Ookla.
Smart led in the first and second quarters of 2020, with a Speed Score of 18.33 (compared to Globe’s 12.35). Smart also reached average download speeds of 15.94 Mbps (versus 11.96 Mbps for Globe) and upload speeds of 7.57 Mbps (versus 4.03 Mbps for Globe).
Smart was recently named the Speedtest Awards Winner in Q3-Q4 2020 by Ookla, with a Speed Score of 24.99 (compared to Globe’s 15.30).
Smart had average download speeds of 20.08 Mbps (compared to Globe’s 15.25 Mbps) and upload speeds of 7.42 Mbps (compared to Globe’s 4.11 Mbps).
Smart’s clear network dominance stems from its parent company PLDT’s ongoing investments in expanding fixed and wireless networks around the country to elevate the country’s telecommunications sector and provide world-class services to Filipinos.
PLDT recently stated that it planned to spend between P88 billion and P92 billion in capital expenditures this year. This contributes to Smart’s ongoing network expansion across the region and its accelerated deployment of Smart 5G, which provides customers with superfast fiber-like mobile speeds.
Smart is at the forefront of the 5G revolution in the Philippines, has become the first local telco to introduce 5G services nationwide in Metro Manila, and strategic areas in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, in July 2020.
To date, Smart has activated over 2,300 Smart 5G sites across the Philippines, providing the most comprehensive 5G coverage in the region.
