OnePlus merges the OxygenOS and ColorOS codebases and announces a new software maintenance schedule

OnePlus revealed earlier this month that it would be integrating more of its organizational resources with its parent company, OPPO, soon. OnePlus has recently announced updates to the OxygenOS codebase as well as an improved software maintenance schedule.

In a forum post, OnePlus stated that the codebases of OxygenOS and OPPO’s ColorOS would be combined to increase efficiency and standardize the software experience. According to the company, this shift is happening behind the scenes, and users will not notice.

OxygenOS is now built on a more substantial base, according to OnePlus, and will continue to be the operating system for all OnePlus users worldwide. With this change, existing devices will receive an OTA upgrade that includes Android 12.

In addition, OnePlus has announced a new software maintenance timetable for its smartphones.

  • OnePlus 8 series and newer devices – 3 major Android updates, 4 years of security updates
  • OnePlus Nord, Nord CE devices – 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
  • All N series devices starting from the Nord N10 and N100 – 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.
