Netflix Reportedly Expanding Into Video Games

With a new Apple Arcade-style service, Netflix is reportedly looking to grow into the video game industry.

“Netflix is looking to recruit an executive to oversee an expansion into video games, a sign it is speeding up its efforts to expand beyond conventional filmed entertainment, according to people familiar with the situation,” according to The Information.

According to the source, the streaming service is considering launching games as a subscription-based “bundle,” similar to Apple Arcade.

Netflix is “excited” to do “something in immersive content,” according to a spokesperson.

The diversity and quality of our content are essential to our members, according to the spokesperson. “That’s why we’ve continued to diversify our programming, from dramas to documentaries, film, local language originals, and reality television.

“Members enjoy getting closer to the stories they care about, whether it’s through immersive shows like Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games focused on Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel, and To All the Boys.

“As a result, we’re looking forward to doing more immersive entertainment.”

This isn’t Netflix’s first foray into the world of video games. The business has also hosted immersive choose-your-own-adventure shows like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and published its video games based on the Stranger Things franchise.

Over the years, the streaming giant has also created hundreds of video game adaptations, including The Witcher, Sonic the Hedgehog, and a Resident Evil film.
