MediaTek has officially announced the world’s first live demo of WiFi 7 technology

The world’s first live demonstration of WiFi 7 technology, showcasing the capabilities of MediaTek’s upcoming WiFi 7 Filogic connectivity portfolio, has been officially announced. The company is currently demonstrating two WiFi 7 demos to key customers and industry collaborators in order to demonstrate the technology’s high speeds and low latency transmission.

According to the company, the demonstration demonstrates how its WiFi 7 Filogic technology can achieve the maximum speed defined by IEEE 802.11be while also demonstrating its multi-link operation (MLO) technology.

MLO technology aggregates multiple channels on different frequency bands at the same time to demonstrate how network traffic can still flow seamlessly even if the bands are crowded or interfered with. MLO technology, according to MediaTek, will be critical for faster and more reliable video streaming, gaming, and anything else that requires constant, sustained, and real-time throughput.

Since its inception, MediaTek has been involved in the development of the WiFi 7 standard, and the company was one of the first to adopt WiFi 7 technology.

The WiFi 7 provides completely new capabilities in all WiFi spectrums, including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz. Because WiFi 7 can use 320Mhz channels and supports 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technology, it will deliver 2.4X faster speeds than WiFi 6 – even with the same number of antennas. Other WiFi 7 features include MLO, which reduces latency by transmitting WiFi across multiple bands and multi-user resource unit (MRU) features for improved interference avoidance and mitigation.

“With the release of WiFi 7, WiFi will be able to be a true wireline/Ethernet replacement for super high-bandwidth applications for the first time,” said Alan Hsu, corporate vice president and general manager of MediaTek’s Intelligent Connectivity business. “MediaTek’s WiFi 7 technology will serve as the foundation of home, office, and industrial networks, enabling seamless connectivity for everything from multi-player AR/VR applications to cloud gaming and 4K calls to 8K streaming and beyond.”

WiFi 7-enabled products are expected to be available in the market beginning in 2023.
