Indonesia has banned Steam, Epic Games, and more

The Indonesian government has restricted access to several internet services, including Steam, Epic Games, and others.

The above mentioned firms, including major players such as PayPal and Yahoo, are now banned in Indonesia after failing to meet a new criteria connected to Indonesia’s content moderation rules.

To operate in the country, these companies, all classified as “Private Electronic System Providers,” must register with the government’s database. The country gave the corporations until July 27 to comply, and those who did not were barred.

The mandate, which is part of a larger regulation in Indonesia, empowers the government to get information about specific users as well as pressure corporations to remove anything that disrupts public order or is illegal.

The blocks are temporary, and companies must register in order to regain access.
