Huawei spin-off Honor expands chip development with a new design unit in Shanghai

Honor, the former sub-brand of Huawei Technologies, has established a new division focused on chip design.

According to business data provider Qichacha, Shanghai Honor Intelligent Technology Development Co. was established on Wednesday in Shanghai’s coastal Lingang Free Trade Zone with a registered capital of 100 million yuan (US$14 million). This new branch is a part of Honor’s expansion efforts.

According to publicly available information, the business scope of the new unit encompasses chip design, sales and associated services, as well as the development of artificial intelligence (AI) application software.

According to a statement released by Honor, the subsidiary will be designated as one of its five research centers in China, with a specific focus on conducting research and development in the areas of core software, graphics algorithms, communications, and photography. As per the company’s website, the remaining four facilities are situated in Beijing, Shenzhen, Xian, and Nanjing.

The business scope of the new unit encompasses the development of application software for artificial intelligence (AI).

As per the official press release, the subsidiary will serve as one of Honor’s five research centers in China, with a primary focus on researching and developing core software, graphics algorithms, communications, and photography. The website of the company displays Beijing, Shenzhen, Xian, and Nanjing as the four designated locations.
