Globe: 5G cellsite targets are on track for Q1

Despite quarantine issues, Globe Telecom Inc. announced today (May 3) that its 5G rollout for the first quarter of 2021 is on track, with 1,383 sites in the National Capital Region ( NCR) of Bacolod, Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao as of end-March.

In addition, the telco is on track to meet its cell site goal, having installed 318 new cell towers and 20 stand-alone in-building solutions (IBS) in the same period.

However, “While our numbers are good for the first quarter of the year, there is still a lot more work to be done,” acknowledged Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

“We need to continue this momentum and rise above quarantine challenges to meet the growing demand of our customers,” he noted.

In addition, the telco completed the expansion of at least 4,210 sites and installed 274,000 high-speed lines, accounting for more than a quarter of its one million Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) lines target for 2021.

Customers benefit from Globe’s aggressive network rollouts and site upgrades, which have resulted in an improved call, SMS, and data browsing services.

The telco’s nationwide consistency score is now over 70%, according to Ookla® data from Q1 2021.

Metro Manila received the highest score of more than 76 percent, while Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Cebu City, and Davao City also received high marks.

The consistency score measures the percentage of a provider’s samples that meet or exceed both the download and upload thresholds.
