GCash aims to be ‘super lifestyle app’ with virtual mall GLife

On Wednesday, GCash announced that it is expanding its functionality and services and partnering with multiple brands to enable them to sell products and services inside the mobile wallet app itself.

According to GCash president and CEO Martha Sazon, users will access shopping, food, home improvement, and other services through the app’s GLife feature.

Lazada, Puregold, KFC, McDonald’s, Completely Booked, Datablitz, and home services provider Gawin are among the brands available on GLife.

Over 30 brands are currently listed on GLife, but Sazon stated that more collaborations are in the works as the company entices brands with access to GCash’s 38 million users.

“They will have an instant captive market in GLife,” Sazon said during the company’s online briefing on Wednesday dubbed as ‘Futurecast.’

According to Sazon, the use of the mobile wallet increased dramatically during the pandemic, more than doubling its user base from about 20 million at the start of 2020 to over 38 million today.

She went on to say that there are now over a million “social sellers” who use GCash.

Another new service in the app, according to GCash, is an investment in foreign technology companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Samsung through GInvest. Users will begin investing in these businesses for as little as P1,000.

The app also helps OFWs transfer money from anywhere globally and directly pay their families’ bills back home.

GCash received a $175 million investment earlier this year from New York-based investors led by Bow Wave Capital Management, bringing the company’s “valuation” to “close to $1 billion.”
