Coca-Cola has announced the launching of its first-ever metaverse flavor, the Zero Sugar Byte, a gaming-inspired limited-edition beverage accessible in both the digital and physical worlds.
After Starlight, Zero Sugar Byte is Coca-second Cola’s Coca-Cola Creations product. It will “bring the taste of pixels to life” and will be “reminiscent of powering up a game, and its refreshing finish makes it an ideal gaming buddy,” according to the brand. Pixels create the trademark Coca-Cola logo on the package designs as well.
On April 4, the Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte was released at retail outlets in several Latin American countries in very limited numbers. On May 2, the drink will be exclusively available in twin packs of 12.5-oz. thin cans online at www.coca-cola.com/creations in the United States. On May 23, a retail launch will take place in China.
Pixel Point, a Fortnite Creative Island created by Coca-Cola and leisure and gaming company PWR, will house it in its digital version. Players will encounter Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte in the metaverse upon admission and engage with other gamers in a series of four sensory-inspired multiplayer mini-games: The Castle, The Escape, The Race, and The Tower. Each immersive chamber has its unique set of challenges that can only be overcome by working together with other players to climb the tower.
Fans may also play an augmented reality (AR) game about BYTE, an 8-bit pixel left behind when Coca-Cola Byte entered the metaverse, by scanning a Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte packaging at www.coca-cola.com/creations. Players may direct BYTE to “jump” up a spiral staircase so the lone pixel can rejoin the Coca-Cola sign by holding down arrows with their fingertips. The completion timings of the players will be placed on a virtual scoreboard that may be shared on social media.
