YouTube channels will soon be able to select their own @handle

Google has announced that handles will be added to YouTube, allowing channel owners to select a unique @ identification that will make it easier for visitors to find YouTube channels.

In most circumstances, if a channel already has a personalized URL, that will become their default handle, or they can choose to alter their channel’s handle as soon as the notification in YouTube Studio arrives. When a creator will be granted access to the handles selection process is determined by a number of variables, including the creator’s overall YouTube visibility, subscriber numbers, and whether the channel is active or inactive.

When a creator choose a handle, YouTube will also generate a matching URL (ex: youtube.com/@handle) so that creators can simply lead viewers to their material even when they aren’t on YouTube. There is no need to adjust links if a channel already has a personalized URL: they will be automatically routed to the new, handle-based URL to create a better, more unified presence for creators on YouTube.
