The successor to its mid-range chipset, the Dimensity 920, from MediaTek has been launched. It offers enhanced economy and performance in addition to an upgraded camera support of up to 200MP for 5G handsets.

The 6nm technology used by the Dimensity 1080 offers a variety of “power-saving advantages” for longer battery life. The aforementioned chipset still uses the same Arm Mali-G68 GPU but has an updated octa-core CPU with two 2.6GHz Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores.
The camera features of Dimensity 1080 stand out thanks to its image signal processor (ISP) named Imagiq, which can handle image data from sensors with up to 200MP (its predecessor can handle 108MP).
Similar to the Dimensity 920, the Dimensity 1080 supports sub-6GHz 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6, and can record hardware-accelerated HDR video at up to 4K resolution. It also has gaming-focused features including HyperEngine 3.0 and an integrated AI processing unit 3.0 (APU 3.0).
According to MediaTek, smartphones running on the Dimensity 1080 will be marketed in the fourth quarter of 2022.
