YouTube hides dislike counts

YouTube has officially stated that dislike counts for videos will be kept secret across the network. Starting today, YouTube will hide the dislike statistics on all videos.

The adjustment was made to safeguard smaller creators from hate assaults and harassment, according to the firm. YouTube also wants to encourage viewers and producers to communicate in a respectful manner. The hate button will remain active, but only the video’s author will be able to view the number rather than all users.

Smaller creators and those just getting started have also told YouTube that they are sometimes directly targeted by this type of conduct. A YouTube experiment revealed that smaller channels have a higher rate of these instances.

Viewers can continue to dislike videos in order to fine-tune their suggestions and communicate criticism with artists confidentially. Although some users may disagree with the move, YouTube believes it is the proper thing to do for the platform.
